It’s time for a Germany vs Japan off-road showdown!
We’ve teamed up with the team from Arctic Trucks once again to hit up an off-road course to see which pick-up will come out on top - the VW Amarok, or the Toyota Hilux!
Let’s take a closer look at the two contenders…
The AT37 is based on the current-generation Hilux, so it comes with a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 204hp and 500Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed auto, and it weighs 2,200kg. The chassis and bodywork have been significantly re-engineered to accept 37” all-terrain tyres, upgraded front & rear differentials, as well as an adjustable performance suspension system. All in, the truck and the upgrades cost £78,000.
As for the Amarok, it’s powered by a 3-litre V6 diesel and that produces 240hp. It also comes with a significantly re-engineered chassis and body, just like the Hilux, and gets similar 37” all-terrain tyres and an upgraded suspension system. However, while the Amarok may have a low-range mode, it doesn’t have rear locking differentials, while the Hilux does!
Arctic Truck’s Hilux has already taken down the Defender in a previous video, but does it have what it takes to bring down the Amarok? You’ll need to stick with Mat and Sam to see for yourself!
