General Information
The EPB switch is located on the driver's side fascia. The EPB uses electromechanical actuators acting directly on the rear brake calipers. The EPB control module is located under the RH rear seat (under carpet). New EPB control module can only be programmed using diagnostic equipment. The EPB uses the ABS system for emergency braking.
Special tools
Brake caliper piston resetting tool (brake pad replacement) - No.000 589 52 43 00.
Manufacturer's or equivalent diagnostic equipment (EPB control module replacement).
System operation
The EPB incorporates an autohold function that applies brake fluid pressure generated by the ABS system to all brake calipers. The EPB is automatically released when the vehicle is driven.
The EPB warning lamp in the instrument panel will illuminate or flash and/or the EPB malfunction warning lamp in the instrument panel will illuminate or flash to indicate a system fault. Additional warning messages may be displayed in the multifunction display.
To apply the EPB
Press and release EPB switch. The EPB warning lamp in the instrument panel will illuminate.
To release the EPB
Pull and release EPB switch. The EPB warning lamp in the instrument panel will extinguish.
Procedures
Emergency releaseThe EPB does not incorporate an emergency release system. If the battery is discharged, connect 12 volt battery supply (via jump leads) to enable the release of the EPB.MaintenancePreparatory operationsNote: DO NOT depress brake pedal.
Activate service mode:
Ensure all doors, boot and bonnet are closed.
Turn ignition key to position I.
Ensure odometer is displayed, if not: Repeatedly press down arrow button until odometer is displayed. Repeatedly press left arrow button until "Trip" is displayed.
Press and hold telephone call button.
Within 1 second : Press and hold "OK" button.
After approximately 5 seconds: The menu options "Vehicle data", "Dynamometer test", "Change brake pad" and "ASSYST PLUS" will be displayed in the multifunction display. Release telephone button and "OK" button.
Repeatedly press down arrow button until "Change brake pad" is highlighted.
Press "OK"
The message "Move to assembly position" will be displayed in the multifunction display.
Press "OK" button.
The message "Assembly position reached" will be displayed in the multifunction display.
Switch ignition OFF.
Remove ignition key.
Draw off sufficient brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir to enable rear brake caliper pistons to be reset.
Resetting
Deactivate service mode:
Turn ignition key to position I.
The message "Assembly position reached/Exit assembly position" will be displayed in the multifunction display.
Press "OK" button.
The message "Assembly position exited" will be displayed in the multifunction display.
Press "OK" button.
The menu options "Vehicle data", "Dynamometer test", "Change brake pad" and "ASSYST PLUS" will be displayed in the multifunction display.
Press back button.
Switch ignition OFF.
Remove ignition key.
Please do take take extra care when jacking the vehicle also replacing brake pads, we will not be responsible if this procedure is not followed correctly and something goes wrong on the car. if in doubt please take it to your local garage.
