The first eSprinter series vehicles that rolled off the assembly line in the Düsseldorf plant have now been integrated into the fleet of the logistics service provider Hermes Germany in Hamburg.

At the location of the logistics center opened in Hamburg in 2019, the first 15 eSprinters were handed over to Marco Schlüter, Chief Operations Officer of Hermes Germany.

They are now expanding the battery-electric Hermes fleet at the site. This means that the parcel service provider in the Hanseatic city is on the go on almost every fifth tour. T

The eSprinters drive in the Hamburg street scene as a visible part of the strategic partnership between Mercedes-Benz Vans and Hermes, which has existed since 2017.

The collaboration goes far beyond the development and operation of battery-powered vehicles. It also included the joint development of a concept for an efficient charging infrastructure in the logistics centers of Hermes and IT services for optimal control of the electric fleet, as well as their integration into the daily operations. 42 charging stations are currently installed in the Hamburg logistics center. Extensive test drives were necessary to set up this ecosystem around electric transporters. The knowledge gained from this then flowed into the further expansion of the electrical delivery network.

The vehicles are leased exclusively from Mercedes-Benz Bank for a period of 36 months including a full ServiceCare service package. This includes all repairs and maintenance, including wear parts and preventive repairs, and enables round-the-clock service with the Mercedes-Benz sales and service network.

The eSprinters delivered to Hermes are produced in Düsseldorf. They are panel vans with a permissible total weight of 3,500 kilograms in a high roof design. Its electric drive drives the front wheels and generates 85 kW with a torque of up to 300 Newton meters. The eSprinter can be specifically configured according to the application - depending on whether a larger range or a higher payload is prioritized. The vehicles handed over to Hermes have a usable battery capacity of 47 kWh (installed: 55 kWh) with a range of 168 km1.2 and a maximum payload of 891 kg. The integrated quick charge function also ensures flexibility, thanks to which the battery can be recharged from 10 percent to 80 percent within approx. 25 minutes. The loading volume of 11 cubic meter can be used without restriction because the batteries are installed in the underbody.
