This 2020 Mercedes E63 AMG Wagon with just over 30,000 miles came in with fault code P06DA00, an oil pump control valve electrical fault on the M177 engine.

The dealer quoted $24,000 for this repair. We completed the same repair for nearly half the cost.

On Mercedes M177 engines, the oil pump control valve is located in a position that requires major disassembly to access. To properly diagnose and repair the issue, the engine must be removed, the transmission dropped, and the oil pan removed to access the valve and wiring harness.

In this video, we explain what the P06DA00 fault code means, why this repair is so labor intensive, and how this issue can go unnoticed. On some Mercedes engines, this fault will trigger a check engine light, but on others it may only be stored in the system with no warning on the dash.

Common symptoms related to P06DA00 may include:
• Check engine light
• Stored fault code P06DA00
• No visible symptoms in some cases
• Hidden faults found during diagnostic scan

The M177 engine is used across multiple Mercedes-AMG models, including:
• E63 AMG / E63S (W213) — 2017–2023
• AMG GT / GT S / GT C / GT R — 2016–present
• AMG GT 4-Door (GT63/63S) — 2019–present
• C63 AMG / C63S (W205) — 2015–2021
• GLC63 AMG / GLC63S (X253) — 2018–2023
• G63 AMG (W463) — 2019–present
• GLS63 AMG (X167) — 2020–present
• S63 AMG (W222 facelift) — 2018–2020

If you own a Mercedes with the M177 engine, this is something to be aware of. Catching this issue early can help prevent further damage and avoid extremely expensive repairs.
