1988 AMG 6.0 4V

This isn't just any W126, it's a 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL, completely reimagined by AMG.

Under the hood is an M117 6.0 DOHC 32-valve engine. Yes, that's the same one: the same architecture that AMG used in its top-of-the-line projects of the late 1980s, alongside the legendary W124-based Hammers. Mercedes never produced a production M117 with two overhead camshafts—the 32V DOHC was a purely AMG engineering solution.

But it's not just the engine that matters here. The car is built as a single unit:
— AMG suspension (springs and shock absorbers)
— AMG brake system
— AMG exhaust system
— AMG Aero I
— AMG MOMO steering wheel

The stock 560SEL is quiet, comfortable, and commanding. This one is sharp, lively, and aggressive. The throttle response, the cornering, the balance—everything is different. The big S-Class suddenly starts driving as if someone forgot to tell it it was a luxury sedan.

The video shows something never seen in the factory brochures. Two different approaches to late-era German power. The same result.

Pre-merger AMG didn't "refine" the cars. They rewrote them.
