Mercedes-AMG just dropped these photos. And the V8 is back.
AMG posted this on Instagram with the caption: "Tested beyond zero—this is how the next story starts. The Mythos doesn't hibernate. Stay tuned."
Look at it. Camouflaged CLE. Massive rear wing. Aggressive diffuser. Widebody fenders. And if you look inside—there's a roll cage. This thing means business.
Why This Screams Black Series:
This has all the hallmarks of a Black Series car:

Massive fixed rear wing
Widebody fenders
Roll cage visible inside
Winter testing in what looks like Sweden
Part of AMG's new Mythos lineup

Normal AMG cars don't get wings like this. This is track-focused. This is serious.
The Engine:
Mercedes has already confirmed the CLE 63 is getting a twin-turbo V8 with:

Flat-plane crankshaft (like the GT Black Series)
48V mild hybrid assist
More power and efficiency than the previous generation

The flat-plane crank means higher revs, sharper throttle response, and a completely different exhaust note. Think Ferrari-esque rather than the traditional AMG burble.
Why This Matters:
The C 63 went to a four-cylinder hybrid. Yes, it made more power on paper—680 horsepower versus 510. But enthusiasts hated it. Sales tanked. Mercedes reportedly sold only 140,000 AMG units in 2024 compared to 206,000 BMW M models.
AMG heard the backlash. They listened.
The CLE 63 bringing back the V8 is a direct response. And if this is a Black Series? That's AMG saying "we understand what you want."
The Mythos Lineup:
Mythos is AMG's new ultra-exclusive series for limited-production, high-performance models. Think of it as the halo cars—the most extreme versions AMG builds.
The caption "The Mythos doesn't hibernate" confirms this CLE is part of that lineup. This isn't just a CLE 63. This is something special.
