Genesis, the car brand - rather than Genesis the band (featuring Phil Collins) - was originally supposed to be introduced as a rival to Lexus, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW, back in 2007. However, parent company Hyundai, eyeing an upcoming global financial crisis, pulled back, and introduced the Genesis models under the Hyundai banner.
However, in 2016, Genesis was launched as a brand. Curiously, the launched the brand with three sedans (G70, G80, G90) in a world that hardly buys sedans, and prefers SUVs and crossovers.
By 2020, Genesis got their act together and introduced the GV70 and GV80 crossovers, followed by the GV60 electric CUV.
Looking at rivals who have seen some success with coupe-ish crossovers, Genesis decided they should do that, too, so late in 2024, they introduced the GV80 Coupe - a CUV with a slanted roof! But, is it any good?
