just show mercedes first attempt at soft ambient lighting introduced in the S class ..

this was new technology in 2000 with special LED bulbs .

unfortunately over the decades the led bulbs aren’t as bright .

the footwells led bulb/ housing combination are easily replaceable if you can find it online and are 0.05w are slightly brighter then the door handle led with 0.02w ..

the door handle led is now decades old design and very difficult to find if at all for replacement once blown.

i actually like the idea of soft lighting so the car isn’t completely dark at night . but in newer mercedes i find the christmas tree lighting style ambient lighting placed all over the vehicle.
a bit distracting along with the bright screens pointing light in your face and eyes while driving.

in my w220. i have all the interior lighting on the dash, command system, speedometer turned down to the lowest level. i find it allows my eyes to adjust and see the road better
