In motorsports, homologation is the type of approval process through which a vehicle is required to go for certification to race in a given league or series.

As an example for the famous WRC class Group B, each manufacturer had to produce 200 road-going units of their race cars in order to be able to participate. For the FIA GT1 class, this number is much lower, only 25 units had to be produced, hence the value of these cars is so high.

These homologation specials are one of the most sought-after models on the market.
