The passenger airbag in your Mercedes B Class (W246) is automatic. So, it will engage and disengage in accordance with the sensors’ readings. These sensors are located in the seat and they identify if there is a passenger in the seat. Also, these sensors may identify if you’ve installed a child seat on the front seat of your car.

The sensors will instruct the control modules to turn off or on the passenger’s airbag in accordance with the coded program. But you should always control if the airbag light tells you the proper information about the airbags. If something goes wrong with the sensors, the may eventually lead to dangerous situations in case of an accident.
