New for a BMW E30 352i or 352es, axles are about $300 from BMW each! As long as the bearings are clean the axle is usually still good. If there is a little axle grease leaking from the boot that's ok. So instead of spending a lot of money on new cv axles, I put new cv axle boots with a diy repair on them for about $50 per side. You can buy off brand cv axles for bmw e30s for about $50 - $100 each, but from my experience they never last and you'll be changing them again soon. Its a little extra effort to rebuild and replace the cv axle boots on the OEM cv axles, and they'll last forever.
