Any old car like this should have the brakes inspected and repaired first. Even if the car has maintenance records showing brake work in recent years it does not mean they are AOK. You will learn this in this video. Frozen calipers and plugged brake hoses are the biggest problems I see. Right behind that is the use of inferior components.
