The BMW 5 Series is an icon of handling and driving dynamics. Often viewed as the benchmark for road handling, the BMW lead is shrinking as other brands have caught up. This new BMW 5 Series is still a wonderful car to drive because of the powerful engines, from the 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder in the 530 to the 335hp 3.0L twin turbo 6-cylinder in the 540 to the 4.4 L in the 540. All come in a design that is roughly the same size but 100kg lighter.
The BMW 5 Series luxury sedan still has room for 5-passengers and look inside of a traditional BMW but the iDrive system is not on its 6th version and is very good. The iDrive is controller either through the central control unit or by moving the tiles on the screen, complete with pinch and swipe features. The biggest change is gesture controls to adjust volume. change stations on the radio of answer a phone call.
All BMW 5 Series cars sold in Canada come with AWD and are available with rear steering for optimal cornering.
The main competitors to the BMW 5 Series are the Mercedes E Class, Audi A6, Jaguar XF, Cadillac CTS, Lexus GS and others.
