One thing that we’ve learned about Mercedes in the past couple of seasons is that they always love to enter the season as underdogs. Whether that’s Wolff commenting that they are not 100% satisfied with their car, or Hamilton saying that “Vettel’s dominance could bore the F1 world,” Mercedes are always portraying themselves as the team that is expected to underperform, but then enters and destroys the entirety of the grid in the first half of the season! The 2023 season is not going to be different, but what gives us the benefit of the doubt is that Mercedes has been the underdog for the first time in 2022, which is why the question needs to be asked – is Mercedes playing one of its clever games again?
