Mercedes takes the underpinnings of the Nissan Navara and puts its own spin on the one-tonne pick-up formula with the new X-Class. It’s a handsome, capable machine and general refinement is impressive for this particular segment, but the interior finish isn’t as special as you’d expect given the brand’s premium intent. Prices for private buyers are steep, too – particularly for this top-of-the-range X 250 d Power model.
Mercedes’ expansive 4x4 offering has widened further to include this, the X-Class one-tonne pick-up. It uses the same chassis as the Nissan Navara and indeed that vehicle’s 2.3-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, available in two states of tune that the German company is badging X 220 d and X 250 d. Unlike other Mercedes SUVs, the trim lines for the X-Class run differently, from Pure through Progressive to top-spec Power.
