Replacing Clock Spring on Mercedes - Steering Wheel buttons didn't work

I was replacing the power steering pump when I dropped the rack and pinion and disengaged the steering shaft on my C63. Free spinning the steering wheel caused the ribbons to be ripped and stop the buttons from working.
