In this video, I'll take away some of the mystery of these transmissions' interiors by showing you all the O-rings, lip seals, and ceiling rings you will need to replace to refurbish one. I agree it's not a beginner job, but if you are experienced with intermediate repair work on your old Benz, you can do this with the right tools and knowledge. Tip: If your transmission has a lot of external leaks, that is a good indication your guts are also leaking - time for a full reseal!

I produced this tool 20 years ago when struggling to remove the tank screen from a W123 240D. https://mercedessource.com/store/search?keys=fuel%20tank%20screen It has to be shallow and easily adapt to a regular box-end wrench or a 1/2-inch drive socket with an extension. Here I will show you a little trick on how to break the screen loose using a box and wrench when you find out you just can't get enough torque to break it loose. There's always a way.

The challenge is getting the bolts out and the bolts back in. The big bolt is sometimes in so tight that you feel like you're gonna break the wrench to get it loose. The small 6 mm head hex bolts that hold the mounts to the frame can be painfully difficult to reach, especially the inboard bolts that sit right underneath the engine mount arm. I fabricated a few special-length hex wrenches, along with some tips and tricks that you'll need to get these bolts out. This video is an introduction.
